MCEP Mission Statement
The purpose of the Maasai Cultural Exchange Project is to support the efforts of SIMOO* and specifically the Maasai’s need to drill wells and subsidize education. SIMOO’s goal is to improve the living standards of the poorest community members among the Maasai, as well as to celebrate and preserve the most valuable aspects of Maasai traditions. The hope is that the project will help promote global awareness through education and cultural exchange with the Maasai.

MCEP History
MCEP was formed in the US by volunteers in January 2005 as a publicly supported project under the tax-exempt non-profit organization Frog Pond Productions.

MCEP Purpose
• Raise awareness of the needs of the Maasai to develop sources of water
• Improve health, living standards, education and the empowerment of women
• Help the Maasai maintain and foster their rich cultural traditions
• Provide educational and professional resources and networking to SIMOO
• Produce promotional materials (video/film, audio, internet, print) that support our mission and purposes

Funds developed by the project are used to:
1) Directly support SIMOO – funds to be used specifically to drill wells and subsidize education
2) Support projects and programs that promote educational and cultural exchange with the Maasai

*SIMOO
MCEP works in association with the Simba Maasai Outreach Organization (SIMOO), a Kenyan NGO,
to directly benefit a community of approximately 5,000 Maasai in the village of Olosho-oibor.

We wish to thank all of our many donors, sponsors and grantors who have made it possible for us
to fulfill our mission to help the Maasai. Our Maasai friends visit the US each spring to attend the United
Nations Forum on Indigenous People’s Affairs. Please see our MCEP calendar page for dates of their
next visit. For more information on the Maasai people and their living situation visit our Maasai
facts and information page.
