News from the Maasai

Sat, 26 Dec 2009

Dear Friends ,
Receive greetings in Jesus name. I have good news from our land here. We have received a good Christmas gift of very heavy rains. Very soon our land will have a lot of green pastures. All dams are full of water.
However, Ii also have very sad news..At Saikeri village, four people drowned and died. Three are from one family while the fourth one is a neighbor. Four others were saved by a good samaritan who lived near the road that flooded and washed people as they walked back home. The land was so bare and the run off very fast.
As we look for 2010, we pray for mercies from above to shower across the Globe. We look forward to develop a food security strategy for our people. May 2010 bring you joy and prosperity. In Jesus name,
           Francis ole Sakuda

Caolyn Seine Sarinke, an MCEP sponsored student at the Kajaido Elementary School tragically drowned in the heavy rains. After praying for rain for so long, it came in abundance but the soil could not absorb the downfalls creating flooding conditions. She died on Dec. 25.

Although we have had disappointments and setbacks with students who have had to drop out of school for periods due to illness or family needs, this is the first time we have had such a shockingly sad outcome.

January 2010

I send greetings and happy new year wishes to you all. We are well and the rain is still ongoing. But though it is a very big blessings, it has brought alot of destruction sweeping anything on its way. Many cattle have been drowned. Our big lake at Olosho-oibor is a victim of the floods that have brought very big boulders of rock from Ngong hills.we only pray that no more lives are lost though many people are being affected country wide. The floods are severe as the land has been so bare.I will send you more information and a proposal for the green house. We want to be prepared for future catasrohpy inform of famine. The heavy rains may be followed by a very long long drought meaning an acute shortage of food.
                         May God bless you all.
